About Thomas
Thomas was born in Trento (Italy). After completing his Bachelor and Master studies in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Bologna (Italy), he pursued his PhD under the supervision of Prof. José Alemán at the Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain). After obtaining his PhD degree (summa cum laude) in 2020 and receiving an award for the best UAM PhD thesis in Organic Chemistry, he moved to Germany to conduct postdoctoral research in Prof. Thorsten Bach research group at the Technical University of Munich. This gave him the possibility to acquire a strong background in enantioselective photocatalysis, in which the Bach group has worldwide recognition. At the end of 2022, he returned to Spain, joining the group of Prof. Mariola Tortosa at the Autonomous University of Madrid as a scientific collaborator. In this context, he was allowed to pursue an independent research line, focusing on the development of enantioselective strategies for the preparation of novel phenyl bioisosteres. Since April 2026, Thomas has been a “César Nombela” Fellow (Tenure-Track Assistant Professor) at the same university, where he is pursuing his independent research program aimed at the development of enantioselective synthesis of novel bioisosteres. His research interests include asymmetric photocatalysis, transition-metal catalysis and organocatalysis.
